Es Una Lucha
Surveillance and documentation of my family by the United States Department of Homeland Security began well before I was born. Because of this and the Freedom of information Act, I am able to access documents that trace back as far as 1989 when my mother was first detained, documented, and recorded in the United States.
Es Una Lucha is a visual study of the effects the bureaucracy behind deportation and legalization proceedings bear on the family support system. By superimposing the legal archive on archived family images, I merge the intimate with the removed to form a comprehensive record of what is and has been experienced.
